Visa Original Credit Transaction (OCT) - A new mandate

An Original Credit Transaction (OCT) is a Visa transaction type which allows the transfer of funds to an eligible Visa account. One of the most common examples of these transfer types is passing gambling winnings back to a card used to place a bet or buy poker chips. This is often also known as aPayout.

Visa has mandated that by 30 September 2021 merchants, gateways, and third-party affiliates supporting OCTs must now capture certain customer data for OCT transactions in specific geographical regions. The table below details what information must be captured.

In summary

You must include the address fields if:

  • you are a merchant based in Canada
  • your customer uses a card issued in Canada

You do not need to supply this if you are a merchant outside Canada making an OCT transaction to a card issued outside Canada. We do, however, recommend including the address fields as they can increase your authorization rate.
