Verifone P400

The P400 is a countertop terminal with a clear bright colour display and a touchscreen.

The connection option with IPC is Ethernet. USB and Serial connections are supported soon.

Connection Modes

The Connection modes supported are Serial, USB, and Ethernet (with payment terminal in Client mode).

When you power up the P400 for the first time, the Comm Mode menu appears. Use it to select your preferred connection type. These are:

  • Serial
  • USB
  • Ethernet

If you do not select a connection type the selection menu times out and the payment terminal defaults to USB connection. The next time the P400 is powered on the menu appears once again.

Once you select a connection type, the Comm Mode menu will not appear again. If you need to change the connection type in the future, use the Engineering menu to change the connection type.

Comm Mode Menu

  1. Switch on the P400, a password field appears.
  2. Enter the password 2345
  3. The Comm Mode menu appears with three options: select Serial, USB or Ethernet
  4. A secondary screen appears that shows default parameters set for the connection mode selected. Press the green Accept key (O).
  5. The VIPA welcome screen appears.

If you selected the serial or USB connection method, the P400 is now ready to connect to IPC. The Ethernet connection mode needs an extra step.

P400 Ethernet Mode

If you select Ethernet mode, you must configure the payment terminal is with the following TCP/IP parameters:

  • IP mode: DHCP
  • Server/Client Mode: Client

The P400 must be in Client mode for an Ethernet connection to IPC work correctly.

The next step is to use the Engineering menu to define the ip address of the IPC host platform. We recommend that for the best user experience auto-connection is switched ON.

To access the P400 Engineering menu, do the following:

  1. At the VIPA welcome page, press the 1 key and the green Enter key (O) simultaneously.
  2. A password prompt appears. Enter the Engineering menu password SE915074

Note: To enter letters from the keypad, press the correct numeric key the correct number of times. For example, to enter S, press the 7 key four times in succession; to enter E, press the 3 key three times in succession. Use the yellow Clear key (<) to delete numbers or letters.

When the Engineering menu appears, do the following:

  1. Select TCP/IP setup.
  2. Select Host setup.
  3. Select Host 1.
  4. Enter the IP address of the server that hosts Integrated POS service e.g. 192.168.1.100

Note: To enter a full stop (.), press 1 six times in succession.

When you have entered the IP address of Integrated POS service, do the following:

  1. Press Accept on the screen or press the green Accept key (O).
  2. Enter the tcp port corresponding to the IPC paypoint for this P400 payment terminal. [link to IPC configuration content]
  3. Press Accept on the screen or the green Accept key (O) to return to the Host Setup menu.
  4. Press Exit on the screen or the red Exit key (X) to return to the TCP/IP Setup menu.
  5. Scroll up or down the TCP/IP setup page and select the Auto Connection option.
  6. Select Enabled. You return to the TCP/IP Setup menu.
  7. Press Exit on the screen or the red Exit key (X) to return to the TCP/IP Setup menu.
  8. Press Exit on the screen or the red Exit key (X) until you exit the Engineering menu.

Because Auto-connection has been configured, the payment terminal automatically attempts to connect to IPC on the Host server IP address and port. The message Starting Comms appears on the screen.

The P400 automatically retries the connection to the configured host and port. If the P400 cannot make connection with IPC the message Connection Lost appears on the screen.

P400 DHCP mode

If you select Ethernet from the COMM mode menu, the P400 uses DHCP to automatically connect to the network. If necessary, you can change this setting from the Verifone Engineering menu:
