Verifone V240m

This is a payment terminal with a screen and integrated receipt printer, merchants use it to take card-present payments.

Power and Charging

The V240m is supplied with the following:

  • Internal rechargeable battery

  • Power Supply Unit (PSU)

  • Full-Feature base (FF-base) station for charging and to support an Ethernet-Bluetooth connection (Ethernet to base, Bluetooth from base to payment terminal)

You can plug the PSU directly into the payment terminal itself. A more practical option is to plug the PSU into the FF-base station, and place the payment terminal in the base station for charging. If you want to use the payment terminal in Ethernet-Bluetooth mode, you must connect the PSU to the FF-base station. This is because the base station connects the payment terminal to the network.

When the payment terminal is not connected to power, press the green Accept key (O) to switch it on and off. To switch off, hold down the green Accept key (O) for approximately 10 seconds.

The payment terminal automatically switches itself on when it is connected to power, or docked into a powered base station. When connected to power you cannot switch it off. To restart it, hold down the green Accept key (O) for approx. 10s.

The V240m cannot operate reliably if the battery charge level is low. Once the charge level reaches ... the IPC application warns that battery levels are low. When you see this warning, you must charge the device. When the battery level falls below 10%, the V240m stops responding to transaction requests and no user input will be accepted until it is charged.

V240M CONNECTION TYPE SELECTION

  1. On powering up the V240m a prompt to enter a password will be shown

  2. Enter password 2345

  3. The Comm Mode menu will be shown Options are WiFi Bluetooth

  4. Select the appropriate option for your environment.

  5. The V240m then displays the VIPA welcome screen.

If using the V240m in Bluetooth mode the next step is to pair the terminal with the Full-Feature base (FF-base). If using WiFi mode the next step is to connect the terminal to your WiFi network.

V240 ENGINEERING MENU

The following sections describe the steps required to configure the V240m where at some points access to the V240m Engineering Menu is necessary.

To enter the Engineering menu

1) Press key 1 and the yellow Clear (<) simultaneously

2) Enter the password SE915074

The V240m allows alphanumeric input.

To enter letters, press the appropriate numeric key the necessary number of times e.g. to enter S, press the 7 key four times in succession; to enter E, press the 3 key three times in succession. The yellow Clear key ( < ) can be used to delete.

V240M WIFI CONNECTION

This section describes the steps required to connect to WiFi :-

1) Enter the V240m Engineering menu

2) Select option Comms setup in Engineering Menu

3) Select option Comm type

4) Select option WiFi

5) Select add WiFi profile

6) Select Wifi network from network scan list

If you are using a hidden SSID scroll down the network scan list to the (Manual) entry and follow the prompts to manually enter your SSID and other parameters

7) A password prompt is shown. Enter WiFi password

8) Exit the Engineering menu by pressing the red Exit/Cancel ( X ) repeatedly

On exiting the Engineering menu you will see message Starting Comms. This indicates that the V240m is attempting to make connection to IPC on the configured ip address & port and WiFi access point.

When the terminal has successfully established connection with WiFi it will display Press Enter to Begin Transaction

The strength of the WiFi signal is indicated by the number of bars displayed in the WiFi icon on the left hand side of the V240m screen

9) The next step is to configure network parameters – see the section V240m Network connection below

V240M BLUETOOTH MODE

This section describes the steps required to pair the V240m with the Full Feature base (FF-base)

  • Connect the V240m FF-Base to your local area network (LAN) using a Cat 5 Ethernet cable.

Ensure the cable is connected to the correct RJ45 socket on the Base.
The correct one is the middle of the 3 RJ-45 sockets on the rear of the base

  • Note the Serial number of the FF-Base from its underside e.g. S/N 318-427-068.
    This is needed for the next steps.

  • Pair the V240m with the FF-Base and follow below steps from a) to t) :

a) Power up the FF-Base and wait for its start up process to be completed. Whilst the FF-Base is starting up the topmost white light on the left hand side of the FF-Base will continuously blink, then all 3 lights on the base will light up briefly, and then the topmost white light on the left hand side of the base will return to blinking continuously.
After a few minutes the topmost white light will become solid – the FF-Base is ready for operation when this point is reached.

b) Place the V240m PED on or near the FF-Base. Ensure the battery level of the V240m is at least 20%

c) From the V240m enter the Engineering menu

d) Select option Comms Setup from the Engineering Menu

e) Select option Comm Type

f) Select option Bluetooth You will be returned to the Comms Setup Menu

g) From the Comms Setup menu select option BT Config

h) Select option Add BT profile

i) You will see Network Search on the V240m screen as it searches for available Bluetooth devices

j) At this point press and release the Bluetooth pairing button on the FF-Base to put it into pairing mode.

The button is found on the front of the FF-Base on the right hand side A blue light will start flashing on the left hand side of the FF-Base.

k) On the V240m screen the list of devices found will be displayed

l) Select the one corresponding to the serial number of the FF-Base station

e.g. V240m-B-FF 318-427-068

m) Select Pairing method SSP with passkey. The PIN is 123456

n) After successful pairing the BT config menu will be shown.

o) Select option Set BT profile

p) Select the newly created BT profile

q) You will be returned to the BT Config menu.

r) Exit the Engineering menu by pressing the red Exit/Cancel ( X ) repeatedly The V240m screen will show ‘Starting Comms’.

s) When the V240m has successfully paired with the FF-Base the screen will show Press Enter to Begin Transaction The Bluetooth symbol will show in the top left hand corner of the screen.

t) Exit the Engineering menu by pressing the red Exit/Cancel ( X ) repeatedly

The next step is to configure network parameters – see the section V240m Network connection below

V240M NETWORK CONNECTION

This section describes the steps required to configure the V240m network parameters for connection with IPC.

These steps apply to both WiFi and Bluetooth connection modes.

The V240m is supplied with the following default network parameters :-

1) TCP mode: Client This is required for a normal IPC application connection.

2) DHCP: ON This is set for convenience.

Static network parameters may be configured via the Engineering menu

3) Auto connection: Disabled Auto-connection is disabled by default to allow easier initial network connection.

For normal IPC application connection this parameter must be set to Enabled.

To connect to IPC configure the ip address and listening port of IPC and set the tcp mode and autoconnection as follows :

1 Enter the Engineering menu.

2 Select option TCP/IP setup

3 Select option Server/Client Mode

4 Select TCP Client

5 From the TCP/IP menu select option Host Setup

6 Select option Host 1 Host 10.150.12.100 is shown as default.

7 Select Edit option

8 Use Clear (yellow ‘<’ ) key to delete existing ip address.

9 Use numeric keys to enter ip address of IPC application's platform e.g. 192.168.0.5 (Press 1 key 6 times to get . character)

10 You will be prompted to enter the Port Port 16107 is shown as default

11 Use Clear (yellow ‘<’ ) key to delete existing Port Enter the port for IPC application instance e.g. 5001

12 Exit the Host set up menu using Cancel (red ‘X’) key

13 From the TCP/IP Setup menu select option Auto Connection

14 Select Enabled

15 Press the Cancel (red ‘X’) key to exit the TCP/IP Setup menu

16 The V240m will now attempt connection to IPC application on the ip address and listening port configured.

You will see the Connecting screen on the V240m. If connection is successful you will see the V240m perform a restart and then display the IPC application home screen Enter Table Number
